Overview

Formetco’s Reusable Billboard Panel Cut-Out Retainers give billboard crews a reusable way to finish cut-out edges on billboard panels without drilling into the panel face. Designed for all types of billboard panels, each retainer simply slips on with a tight fit, so cut-out extensions stay secure without permanently altering the panel.

Key Features and Benefits

Durable, Lightweight Construction

Retainers are made of lightweight, durable 20-gauge sheet metal with a G-90 galvanized coating, a combination that keeps the retainer easy to handle in the field while standing up to the corrosion risk that comes with long-term outdoor exposure.

Works Across Materials

Because retainers can be used with wood, aluminum, and plastic corrugated sheeting cut-outs, crews aren’t locked into a single extension material — the same retainer approach covers multiple cut-out builds.

No Drilling Required

By eliminating drilling holes into the top of billboard panels, retainers avoid creating additional penetration points on the panel face, which helps preserve the panel’s finish and integrity over repeated cut-out changes.

Reusable

Retainers are fully reusable for future cut-outs, so crews can remove a retainer from one job and reuse it on the next cut-out installation rather than treating it as a one-time-use item. Standard retainers are available in 8′ lengths.

Available Configurations

Formetco offers several retainer configurations to match specific panel systems:

• RL Retainer — for 1″ Rotarylok panels, 1-1/8″ opening
• DuraPaint Retainer — for wood or DuraPaint panels, 1-7/8″ opening
• HOP Core Retainer — for metal HOP/Butler panels, 2-1/8″ opening (also fits 2″ horizontal poster panels)
• Universal Retainer — for metal, wood, or panel-less wind frames (specify cut-out material/thickness)
• Universal Retainer, Slotted — same applications as the Universal Retainer, in a slotted variant
• FX 8′ H-Retainer — for double-stacking Rotarylok panels; also available as 1″x8′, 2″x8′, and 2″x12′ metal edge molding

Having this range of opening sizes and mounting styles lets crews match the retainer to the exact panel system on site rather than forcing a single retainer type across different bulletin configurations.
