Ladder Stabilizer

Overview

The Formetco Ladder Stabilizer is designed to prevent slips or tipping while climbers access catwalks and fixed ladders on billboard structures. Ladder-related instability is a common hazard for outdoor advertising crews, and the Ladder Stabilizer addresses it directly by giving the base of a ladder a fixed, secure point of contact instead of leaving its position to chance.

A Permanent, Purpose-Built Access Point

Because the Ladder Stabilizer is permanently installed, it creates a dedicated, repeatable safe access point at a specific location on the structure rather than requiring a climber to judge ladder placement fresh each time. This removes a source of variability from every climb: instead of eyeballing the angle and hoping the footing holds, the crew has a fixed reference point that’s already been set up correctly. The stabilizer eliminates unstable ladder placement while ensuring the ladder is held at the correct 75 degree climbing angle every single time the ladder is set into it.

Corrosion-Resistant Construction

The stabilizer is constructed with quality galvanized steel, a material chosen specifically to resist corrosion in the outdoor, weather-exposed environments where billboard structures are typically located. Galvanized steel holds up to rain, humidity, and temperature swings over years of service without the surface degradation that would compromise a safety-critical component — which matters for a device meant to be a permanent fixture on structure.

Flexible, Universal Mounting

The Ladder Stabilizer is suitable for attaching to catwalk kick rails, vertical flat surfaces, or fixed ladders, and ships with a complete installation kit so crews aren’t sourcing separate hardware to get it mounted. Its universal design works with any type of ladder, meaning a single stabilizer specification can be standardized across a fleet of structures rather than matching stabilizers to specific ladder models. For safer climber access, Formetco recommends placing the stabilizer near horizontal and vertical lifeline systems, so the point where a climber transitions onto the ladder is also close to where they can tie off.

Important Safety Note

The Ladder Stabilizer keeps the ladder in place, but it does not replace proper ladder placement — the weight of the climber must still be supported by the ladder’s footing on the ground. Even with the ladder correctly angled in the stabilizer, it can tip sideways if its feet aren’t level. On uneven ground, use a leveling trench, not stacked boards or bricks, or use Formetco’s adjustable leg-leveling extensions to establish stable, level footing. Treating the stabilizer and correct ground-level footing as two separate requirements — not one substituting for the other — is central to using this product safely.
