Elastic Tool Lanyard

Overview

The Formetco elastic tool lanyard is designed to prevent dropped tools used while working at heights from falling onto workers or structures below. On billboard structures, elevated platforms, and other work-at-height environments, a dropped hand tool can become a serious hazard to anyone or anything working underneath — this lanyard keeps tools tethered to the worker using them instead of relying on grip alone.

Tethering and Connection

The lanyard has a cinch loop end for tethering to captive holes on tools, connecting directly to hardware that tools already have built in for tethering rather than requiring an aftermarket adapter. The opposite end uses a twist-locking carabiner and loop to connect the tethered tool line to the worker’s harness or anchor point, keeping the tool within a controlled range even if it’s dropped mid-task.

Elastic, Fall-Arrest Rated Construction

Built from polyester tubular webbing as part of a fall arrest system, the lanyard measures 97 cm (3.18 ft) at rest with a maximum elongation of 1.30 m (4.26 ft) under load. That elongation allows the lanyard to absorb the energy of a falling or swinging tool rather than transmitting a hard jolt straight through the connection point. The system is rated to a maximum fall force of 408 kg (900 lb) and a capacity of 13 kg (28.6 lb), sizing it for the hand tools commonly carried on outdoor-advertising structures.

Visibility and Inspection

The webbing color facilitates remote recognition, so a tethered tool is easy to spot from a distance by crew members or ground spotters. Its contrasting stitching color makes inspection easy for the user, letting fraying or stitch damage stand out visually during a pre-use check rather than requiring close handling to detect wear.
