Overview

Conduit Light Arms and Support Brackets from Formetco give billboard crews a complete, purpose-built system for routing electrical conduit to lighting fixtures while keeping catwalks clear and safe to work on. The system is built around two components — the light arm itself and the conduit support brackets that carry it — each engineered for the specific demands of billboard structures.

Light Arm Construction

The light arm is made of 1.5” square aluminum tubing, a design chosen for ease of installation and to eliminate fixture roll-over, a common issue with round-tube designs that can rotate under load or wind. A ¾” threaded coupler is welded in place on the arm, allowing flexible conduit to be connected quickly rather than requiring additional fittings assembled on site.

Light arms are available in two standard lengths to match common billboard formats: 66” for Poster Panels and 75” for Bulletins. For crews looking to save time during installation, optional pre-wired light arms are available, cutting down on field wiring work. Formetco also offers custom light arms for top-mount and wall-mount applications where the standard configuration doesn’t fit the structure.

Conduit Support Brackets

The support brackets that carry the conduit and light arm are made of 12 ga. galvanized steel, chosen for strength and long-term durability in an outdoor environment. They’re designed to hang over 3” and 4” angle iron kickrails, keeping conduit up off the catwalk surface and out of the path of foot traffic — directly eliminating a common trip-and-fall hazard for crews working the catwalk. Formetco also offers an exclusive 6” bracket sized specifically for its FormaTred catwalk kickrails.

Brackets attach using 5/16” x 4” round or square U-bolts with 5/16” serrated flange lock nuts, and two brackets are required per light arm to properly support the assembly.

Custom Light Arm Options

Beyond the standard configuration, Formetco offers several custom light arm options to match specific structure types. The Junior/Poster Panel Light Arm mounts top or bottom and attaches to horizontal panel ribs using 4 hook bolts, and is available in gray, brown, or black to match structure finishes. Bulletin Light Arms can be configured for top, bottom, or angle-iron mounting, fitting I-beam faces, wood stringers and posts, or angle-iron stringers depending on the structure. Wall Mount Light Arms are built for WallScapes applications and are available in aluminum or steel, with a side-swinging option that lets fixtures be swung out of the way and stored during swing-stage copy changes — keeping the light arm from interfering with crews changing out vinyl or paper copy.
