Overview
The Backdrop Vinyl Hardware Kit is an optional accessory designed to increase the life of a client’s wrapped advertising vinyl when it’s mounted over a Formetco Direct-to-Pole or Panel-Free Frame. It works by keeping sunlight from showing through the main ad copy while also reducing the negative effects of wind pillowing, including the friction tears along the pole pockets that cause early blowouts. For operators running panel-free systems, this kit addresses two of the most common ways advertising vinyl fails before its time.
Why Backdrop Vinyl Matters
On a panel-free frame, the advertising vinyl is the only thing standing between the sun and the back of the structure, and it’s also exposed to constant wind movement. When wind pillows the face, the vinyl flexes at the pole pockets, and that repeated friction is what leads to early tears and blowouts. A backdrop vinyl sits behind the ad copy, blocking light transmission and absorbing some of that wind-driven movement so the outward-facing advertising vinyl lasts longer.
Simple to Install
The kit is easy to install from the backside of the frame with a single bolt and nut, so crews aren’t disassembling the face to add it. It also includes 4″ hook bolts and nuts for stretching the backdrop vinyl into place, meaning no ratchet straps are needed to get proper tension during install.
Built for Strength
The hardware itself is made of ¼” steel that is pre-punched and angle formed for strength, so it holds up under the same wind loading the frame is designed to handle. Each kit includes: (1) ½” x 1.5″ Carriage Bolt, (1) ½” Serrated Flange Lock Nut, (1) Channel Nut, (1) 3/8″ x 4″ FX Hook Bolt, and (1) 3/8″ Serrated Flange Lock Nut.
Sized and Spaced for Performance
The system maintains a 2-inch gap between the outside ad vinyl and the backdrop vinyl, which prevents moisture and mildew build-up between the two layers. Backdrop vinyl is sized from pocket edge to pocket edge at 1-foot less than the outer dimension of the frame’s height and width. For tensioning, top and bottom gripper bars require three pull points per bar up to 12′, while side gripper bars require four pull points per bar up to 14′. Fiberglass gripper bars can be included if needed, giving crews another option for getting even tension across the backdrop vinyl.
