Overview
The Formetco anchor beam strap is a temporary anchoring device designed to be mounted to structures capable of resisting 2,268 kg (5,000 lbs.) per worker, providing safe attachment of energy-absorbing lanyards. It gives crews working on billboard structures and outdoor-advertising steelwork a quick, reusable way to establish a compliant anchor point wherever the job requires one.
Construction
The strap is built from 1-3/4″ webbing reinforced with a 3″ polyester wear pad, positioned to sit against the beam or structural member the strap wraps around and protect the load-bearing webbing from abrasion at the contact point. As part of a fall arrest system, the strap carries a capacity of 140 kg (310 lb) and weighs just 0.650 kg (1.43 lb), light enough to carry up to a work platform without adding meaningful bulk to a crew member’s gear.
Choosing the Right Length
The anchor beam strap is offered in 3 ft (90 cm) and 6 ft (183 cm) length options. Anchor points vary from job to job — a narrow purlin calls for a different wrap length than a wide structural beam — so the anchor strap should be selected according to the requirements of the work environment. Choosing the correct length keeps the strap snug around the anchor structure instead of leaving excess slack.
Visibility, Inspection, and Quality
The color of the product facilitates remote recognition, allowing a ground observer or fellow crew member to confirm an anchor strap is in place before work begins. Contrasting stitching color makes inspection easy for the user, so stitch damage or wear can be caught quickly during a pre-use check. This product is manufactured under strict quality standards and is certified to ANSI Z359.18-2017, the standard governing anchorage connectors used in active fall protection systems.
