Overview
The billboard rest lanyard twist lock model is Formetco’s resting and positioning lanyard with twist lock snap-hooks on both ends. Formetco Select Resting and Positioning Lanyards with large aluminum rebar hooks provide support while resting or working on fixed billboard ladders. They attach to D-rings on either the chest or hips of a climber’s safety harness, giving a crew a way to take the load off their arms and legs during a long climb or an extended work session on the structure.
Not a Stand-Alone Fall Protection Device
Resting and positioning lanyards do not offer fall protection and should be used with other fall-arrest equipment, or as part of a full fall-arrest system, such as a cable sleeve and vertical lifeline system. Because of this, a resting lanyard should be treated as one component of a complete fall-arrest setup rather than a replacement for one — but it should still be a part of every billboard climber’s fall-arrest equipment, since it plays an important role in reducing fatigue during long climbs.
How It’s Used
Resting lanyards are typically used when climbing 30′ or taller fixed ladders. When the lanyard is attached to the harness front D-ring and to the fixed ladder rung in front of the climber, the climber can rest in the harness by propping their legs on a rung and leaning back into the harness — allowing the worker to take a break from climbing without descending or searching for another resting point. On a tall billboard ladder, having that kind of built-in rest option can make a real difference over the course of a long climb, letting a worker recover before continuing up or down the structure.

The Hi-Vis Green webbing keeps the lanyard visible on the structure, and the High Tenacity Polyester webbing, rated to a minimum breaking force of 5,000 lbs., gives the lanyard the strength margin appropriate for its 310 lb. working load at heights above 30′. The aluminum rebar hooks and twist lock snap-hooks are built for quick, secure connection to ladder rungs and harness D-rings, and each carabiner is engraved with its norms and specifications for easy field inspection. This lanyard is ANSI Z359.3-2019 certified and is designed for use only with a fall rated full body harness.
Two Twist-Lock Hooks vs. One Aluminum + One Twist-Lock
This version uses twist lock snap-hooks on both ends, giving a crew two identical, quick-connect points rather than one dedicated rebar hook. That makes it a better fit when a worker needs to switch between multiple anchor styles during a climb. Formetco also offers this same rest lanyard with one large aluminum rebar hook and one twist-lock snap for crews who primarily anchor to rebar-style connection points and want a dedicated hook on one end.
Below are common questions crews ask about the billboard rest lanyard twist lock model.
Can this resting lanyard replace a fall-arrest lanyard?
No. Resting and positioning lanyards like this one do not offer fall protection on their own and must be used alongside other fall-arrest equipment, such as a self-retracting or shock-absorbing lanyard, or a full lifeline system.
When should a crew use a resting lanyard instead of just staying tied off?
Typically on fixed ladders 30 ft. or taller, where the climb is long enough that resting in the harness — rather than descending or searching for another stopping point — meaningfully reduces fatigue.
Can this be used at the same time as a self-retracting or shock-absorbing lanyard?
Yes — that’s the intended setup. The resting lanyard takes the load off a climber’s arms and legs during a break, while the separate fall-arrest lanyard stays connected and active the whole time.
Why choose two twist-lock hooks instead of one aluminum rebar hook?
Two matching twist-lock hooks give a crew flexibility to connect to multiple anchor styles along a route, rather than a single hook dedicated to rebar-style anchors.
Part of a Complete Fall-Protection System
This resting lanyard is designed to work alongside — never instead of — a full fall-arrest lanyard such as Formetco’s self-retracting or shock-absorbing dual lanyards, connected to the same fall rated full body harness. On structures with longer runs, crews often add a cable sleeve and vertical lifeline system to complete the setup.
