On June 5, Formetco Sports welcomed students, coaches, athletic directors, teachers, and industry professionals to the LHG Innovation Center for the 2026 Scoreboard Summer Camp. The annual event provides students with the unique opportunity to explore careers in live sports production. Through a full day of hands-on learning and interaction with industry experts, participants were able to try out different broadcasting, AV technology, and event operation experiences.
Designed for students interested in the behind-the-scenes of sports media, the camp focused on the idea that you are never too young to start developing skills for the variety of professional career paths available in game-day production.
Learning from Industry Leaders
The day kicked off with the Industry Spotlight Panel hosted by Formetco’s Vice President of Sports & Partnerships, Matt Leech. Joining him on stage were Terrance Beavers (UGA), Chandler Apple (Georgia State), and Rick Freeman (ESPN), who shared their experiences working in sports production and game-day operations.
Students gained valuable insight into how each panelist got started in the industry, the challenges they faced along the way, and the skills needed to build a successful career in sports media and production. The session concluded with a live Q&A, giving students the opportunity to ask questions directly to the professionals working in the field.
Following the panel, Bradd Mann and current Formetco Student Ambassador, Shiven Amrith, took the stage to present “The Five Tenets of a Successful AV Program.” Drawing from their experiences at Sequoyah High School, they shared practical strategies for building and sustaining a successful student-led AV program. Their presentation focused on preparation, adaptability, communication, and continuous improvement, providing students and educators with ideas they could implement in their own programs.
Students also heard from award-winning sports broadcaster Sam Crenshaw (CBS Sports), who shared stories from his career in sports media and discussed the skills, work ethic, and passion required to succeed in broadcasting. His presentation offered students a firsthand look at the opportunities available within sports journalism and how storytelling plays a big role in creating an impactful career.
Celebrating Student Achievement at the 2026 Scoreboard Summer Camp
One of the highlights of the camp was the opportunity for students to participate in four hands-on breakout sessions, each designed to expose them to a different aspect of game-day production.
Instant Replay
Led by Evan Williams, students learned how replay operators capture key moments during a game, working in a fast-paced environment to produce content in real time to support live broadcasts. The session provided students with a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most critical roles in sports production.
Game Day Producing
Stepping directly into the roles that build a real production, Chandler Apple taught the importance of each individual job and how critical they are for the show to go on. From the anchors to the camera operators, each group experiences what it is like to film different segments of a recap-style broadcast. Gaining firsthand experience, students were able to understand how production teams work together to create engaging content.
ProScoreboard Tips & Tricks
Formetco’s own Andy Howell introduced students to ProScoreboard, the premier scoreboard presentation software. Focusing on teaching them all there is to building scoring layouts, managing ad zones, organizing content, and running graphics during the game. Students learned how pivotal software knowledge is to level up their game day experience.
Audio Sound Engineering
Learning that there is more to audio than pressing play, Bobby Norton provided students with hands-on experience in audio mixing, microphone balancing, and sound system operation. Students learned how audio impacts the fan experience and why sound engineering cannot be overlooked when it comes to a live event.
Preparing for Game Day Success
Students also heard from Formetco Customer Support Supervisor Taleigh Culley, who discussed the importance of preparation, organization, and troubleshooting before game day. Her session provided practical tips for helping schools maximize their equipment and create successful productions throughout the year.
Celebrating Student Achievement at the 2026 Scoreboard Summer Camp
The day concluded with several exciting giveaways, including the announcement of the Premier Production Bundle Giveaway awarded to one lucky school. This bundle will provide students from Habersham Central High School with professional equipment to produce content for their school.
Current Student Ambassador Shiven Amrith also reflected on his experience over the past year before announcing Formetco’s annual $5,000 scholarship recipient and passing the torch to the next Formetco Student Ambassador (Josh Arispe). The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate leadership, passion, and a commitment to advancing their school’s AV and production programs.
